I think we should incorporate the skill of alchemy because it was such a unique part of Oblivion. In terms of alchemical effects, we'll probably have to remove all magic ones (nightey, fire damage, etc). But, we could keep all the damage/fortify health, fatigue and attribute effects, as well as cure disease. After all, there were poisons and cures. Also, harvestible plants add a lot to the scenery.

Also, for diseases, we could use things like Influenza, Syphilis and Smallpox. I also suggest that we use a disease system like Vector (http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1017467&hl=disease), making disease dynamic.

I like the thought of diseases being things like smallpox etc
